ASSETS-TREHAB

The ASSETS-TREHAB Program is a training , mentoring and technical support program for entrepreneurs, with emphasis on serving low- to-middle income participants. ASSETS was established in March 1999, and since that time has graduated 422 participants. Of those graduates,112 started a small business, and 92 graduates reinforced a small business.  Eighty-five percent of the ASSETS participants are low- to middle- income.

ASSETS-TREHAB worked with MEDA in forming this fundamental micro-enterprise program within rural Pennsylvania that serves the counties of Susquehanna, Bradford, Sullivan, Tioga and Wyoming. ASSETS assists entrepreneurs in establishing and maintaining the competitive edge.

The" Business Design and Management Course" is currently offered twice a year, with a fall and spring curriculum consisting of a series of three-hour-long programs held twice weekly for six weeks. ASSETS allows for a partnership with local community leaders, instructors, presenters and educators to provide an intensive curriculum, with the intention of building self-sufficiency and creating economic viability for the community one classroom of citizens at a time.

Susquehanna/Wyoming counties have graduated a total of 284 participants as of November, 2006, with spring curriculum scheduled for April, 2007. Bradford, Sullivan and Tioga counties have graduated a total of 132 participants as of November, 2006,and September, 2007 will mark the start of fall classes.

ASSETS-TREHAB offers additional workshop training that evolved as some clients expressed the need for specific, specialized topics related to their businesses. These sessions include advanced information on networking, financial strategies, computer usage, oral communication and presentation skills.

Six participants who completed the ASSETS entrepreneurial training chose to participate in the TREHAB Center's Family Savings Account Program. This matching grant program instructs participants to implement systematic savings that will assist them in their pursuit of micro-business startup and self-employment.

New to our program and now available to graduates of the course is The Trehab Center, Inc.’s Revolving Loan Fund. The mission of the loan fund is to assist those who qualify to achieve financial growth through new and established ventures funded through the loan fund. Ten applications have been processed successfully, enabling our entrepreneurs to move forward with their small business endeavors.
