It's Year 24: Don't Forget Feed-A-Friend!

The Feed-A-Friend program began its 24th year at the annual kickoff luncheon at the Montrose Bible Conference Tea Room on October 14. Attendees ranged from high school students and their advisors to local business, church and service organization representatives. TREHAB Feed-a-Friend coordinators Lynn Senick and Edlyn Flannery made a presentation to illustrate the many steps-and individuals-involved in carrying this project to a successful completion.

TREHAB coordinates the Feed-A-Friend program in cooperation with WNEP-TV 16, Scranton. The program helps needy county families celebrate Thanksgiving with all the trimmings through donations of nonperishable food items and of money to purchase holiday turkeys. In a massive month-long volunteer effort, food and donations are collected and baskets(bags) are readied for distribution right before the holiday. Last year, 925 households, a total of 3,238 individuals, enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner thanks to this community effort.

The food banks run by TREHAB in Montrose and Oakland take names of persons requesting the Thanksgiving baskets. Lists of potential recipients are also sent to the food banks by Aging Services, Children & Youth Services, and school nurses.

At the luncheon, TREHAB Board President Ron Williams presented Jerry Wilson of the Hallstead area with a certificate honoring him for his years of support of the TREHAB food banks and the Feed-a-Friend program. Mr. Wilson is employed by Rob's Market in Hallstead, owned by Rob Robinson, another strong supporter of the food banks and Feed-A-Friend.

All food and money donations collected by TREHAB stay in Susquehanna County to help feed hungry families right here.
