Drug & Alcohol Prevention

Trehab's Prevention Department conducts educational programs in schools, and throughout the community, to build protective factors and reduce risk factors for alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) abuse.
 
School Programs:
 
Student Assistance Program (SAP)
 
Trehab Prevention personnel regularly attend SAP meetings at each school, and provide D&A resources and referrals as needed. Trehab has also conducted SAP team training and teambuilding events and activities, county-wide.
 
Classroom Education
 
Too Good For Drugs (TGFD) and LifeSkills Training (LST), both evidence based curricula, are conducted in six of the seven elementary schools in Susquehanna County. The classroom presentations include a combination of specific ATOD information and social/life skills development. Integrated delivery methods include: hands-on activities, games, videos, creative expression, worksheets, lecture and discussion.
 
Other Presentations
 
Special topic presentations are arranged periodically for middle and high school students and cover a wide range of subject matter, from ATOD specifics to the importance of sound decision-making and appropriate goal setting. Trehab also brings in speakers and high-energy presentations from organizations such as the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Pennsylvania Tobacco Control Program.

Youth Groups
 
Members of Trehab Prevention staff also provide resources for student groups such as Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Key Clubs, Student Council, Scouts and 4-H Clubs.
 
Contests
 
Trehab coordinates and co-sponsors contests to offer students an opportunity to display their knowledge and understanding of drug related topics through creative expression.
 
Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Programs
 
Trehab Prevention staff can facilitate an array of tobacco programs for school groups.  Click here for more information.
 
Community Programs:
 
Parenting Education
 
Parent-to-Parent provides awareness education to small groups of parents. This program, facilitated by Trehab Prevention, is a video-based series of eight one-hour sessions in whcih parents can discover simple but meaningful, techniques for handling situations common to parents of adolescents.
 
General Programs
 
Trehab's Prevention Department provides speakers, displays, and printed material resources for civic and community organizations, parent groups, health fairs, businesses and private entities.
 
Lending Library
 
Trehab Prevention has an extensive library of printed and video resources available to the community.
