Trehab's Prevention Department conducts educational programs in schools, and throughout the community, to build protective factors and reduce risk factors for alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) abuse.
Student Assistance Program (SAP)
Trehab Prevention personnel regularly attend SAP meetings at each school, and provide D&A resources and referrals as needed. Trehab has also conducted SAP team training and teambuilding events and activities, county-wide.
Too Good For Drugs (TGFD) and LifeSkills Training (LST), both evidence based curricula, are conducted in six of the seven elementary schools in Susquehanna County. The classroom presentations include a combination of specific ATOD information and social/life skills development. Integrated delivery methods include: hands-on activities, games, videos, creative expression, worksheets, lecture and discussion.
Special topic presentations are arranged periodically for middle and high school students and cover a wide range of subject matter, from ATOD specifics to the importance of sound decision-making and appropriate goal setting. Trehab also brings in speakers and high-energy presentations from organizations such as the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Pennsylvania Tobacco Control Program.
Members of Trehab Prevention staff also provide resources for student groups such as Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Key Clubs, Student Council, Scouts and 4-H Clubs.
Trehab coordinates and co-sponsors contests to offer students an opportunity to display their knowledge and understanding of drug related topics through creative expression.
