Homeownership Program

Trehab first offered the Homeownership Program in Bradford County in 1994. Since then, the program has been offered throughout Trehab’s service area and is currently available in Bradford, Susquehanna and Tioga counties.

The program provides homebuyer pre-screening, a series of intensive workshops to teach consumers about all aspects of purchasing a home and how to be a successful homeowner. To stay leading edge and to meet the needs of homebuyers, Trehab offers this homeownership education online via the internet. Prospective homebuyers can sign up for the online workshops by contacting a Trehab counselor. There is two-way communication via email between the counselor and homebuyer to insure the homebuyer understands the material and to answer any questions.

One-on-one counseling is also available throughout the purchase process and down payment/closing cost assistance may be available to eligible households.

Collaboration with county, state and federal housing programs is an essential element to the program. Homeownership is achieved as participants gain access to mortgage programs offered by Rural Development (RD), Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA), Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), and affordable "in-house" mortgage programs offered by area lenders. The key program to establish a system of collaboration and cooperation of related programs is the PA Dept. of Community & Economic Development HOME Program, which provides project administration funding and grant funds for eligible homebuyers.

Homeownership provides a way for families to build their assets, provide a good family environment and to become a part of the community.

Since its inception the Homeownership Program has accomplished the following:

  • 234 Workshops Completed
  • 1560 Households Completed the Workshops
  • 633 Households Purchased a Home
    (The above represents 40% of workshop graduates successfully reaching their home purchase goal!)
